Toronto's winter is a lake winter. Lake Ontario keeps the core milder than Barrie or Ottawa and often turns a storm to rain or ice near the waterfront while the suburbs stay snow. The preloaded setting is urban: shorter routes and a lot of walking, so the bus score is eased a little compared with a rural board.

The Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board both serve the city, and both point families to the Toronto Student Transportation Group for yellow-bus delays. Most high-school students are on the TTC, which is a different system from a cancelled school bus. A high bus score is about school buses, not a promise that the subway will stop.

Questions parents ask

Do Toronto schools close every time the buses do?

No. TDSB and TCDSB can keep buildings open when transportation is reduced. Read the board site and TSTG separately. This score does not speak for either of them.

Why can Mississauga look worse than downtown on the same morning?

The lake effect and the rain-snow line often sit between the waterfront and the northwest of the urban area. Search the city you actually travel through, not only the downtown forecast.
