Nova Scotia's regional centres for education make the call for public schools in their region. Halifax and Truro have their own pages. Halifax Regional Centre for Education and Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education are linked there because those are the public centres for those communities. They are not the only schools in town.
Atlantic storms combine snow, rain, and ice, often with wind. A nor'easter that changes from snow to freezing rain can be more disruptive than a colder, drier snowfall of the same water content. The model counts freezing-rain weather codes separately from snowfall, and it adds wind when gusts ride on top of that mess.
Coastal delays and power cuts are outside the score. If the lights are out or a road is closed, the centre's announcement and local emergency channels override a probability that was calculated last night.

Questions parents ask
Does a Halifax closure cover Truro?
No. They are different regional centres. Each page on this site names the centre we could verify and links its homepage. Confirm you are looking at the centre that runs the school.
How should I read an ice-heavy forecast?
Look at the freezing-rain factor, not only the centimetres of snow. A short period of freezing rain can outrank a moderate snowfall for both the closure score and the bus score.
