The CSSDM info-tempête page says a watch notice issued the day before is not automatically a closure. If no message about a full or partial closure of its establishments has been published by 6 a.m., those establishments are open. The decision is generally taken very early the same morning from the weather and the state of the roads. The page says the centre may consult the four other school service centres and boards on the Island of Montreal, school transporters, the Société de transport de Montréal, and the regional public-health office.

The closure policy adopted by the CSSDM board of directors on 27 June 2023 says the director general, or a person that office designates, decides whether schools or offices close for an unforeseen cause or bad weather, or whether student transportation is suppressed. Those are separate decisions in the policy. This page does not display today's notice.

Questions parents ask

Does a veille mean Montreal schools are closed?

No. The CSSDM info-tempête page says a watch notice is not automatically a closure for the next day. Wait for the message about a full or partial closure.

Does cancelling buses close the school?

The 2023 policy lists school closure and suppression of student transportation as decisions the director general can take. One is not the other. Read the notice that was actually published.
